Junior Kennedy Burke was recently recognized by the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award (top shooting guard in the nation) and the Cheryl Miller Award (top small forward in the nation) for her efforts and expect that to continue in 2017-18.
Last season, Burke was third on the team in scoring with 12.2 pooints per game behind this year’s senior leaders Jordin Canada and Monique Billings. Burke will step up as the Bruins’ primary outside shooter. Burke was also third on the team in both field goal percentage (45.7) and three-pointers made (32). Expect both of those numbers to increase during the 2017-18 season as her role will expand. With Canada at the point, Billings in the post and Burke on the wing, the Bruins have three very talented players that will help push the tempo this season..
In UCLA’s 87-40 exhibition win over Vanguard, Burke almost claimed a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. She also added two assists, two steals and a block. Burke is part of a core that returns nine players from last year’s Sweet Sixteen team, it was also the second year in a row the Bruins made it that far in the NCAA Tournament. This year, the Bruins are expected to build off that success.
