In episode 143 of ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we take a look at the state of UCLA Football heading into the bye week and with the season less than a month away, we take a glance at UCLA Basketball.
In the latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I chat each other up about the state of UCLA Football and what they need to focus on in the bye week.
We start with our Go Joe Bruin headlines as we cover a little bit a UCLA Basketball as the season is less than a month away. We talk about Bruins on the Beach, UCLA needing to focus and LaVar Ball pulling his son LaMelo Ball out of Chino Hills High School.

We then got into the meat and potatoes of our UCLA Football discussion as we take a look at the ‘Game That Was. Over the weekend, the UCLA defeated Colorado 27-23 to go 3-2, 1-1 on the season. It was a bit slapdash and an oddly paced win, but UCLA was able to get the job done.
The defense, which has been one of the worst in the nation (statistically), pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and limited Colorado to a season lows in run and pass defense.
So with the Bruins having a bye this week, which comes at the perfect time, players can get some rest, they can get acclimated to school and the coaches can assess the team going forward. Seven games remain and now that we have a good feel for how this team is operating, we predict how UCLA will finish the season.
We then take a look at the offense which has blown us away this season. Can they keep it up (even with the loss of TE Caleb Wilson) or will they drop off heading into the later part of the season?
