Outlook

More from UCLA Bruins Basketball

Things are going to be completely different from last season when the Burins struggled through the regular season and had a first round exit in the Pac-12 Tournament. Why is that? Well aside from having a solid core of returning players, the Bruins, as mentioned above, bring in the #1 recruiting class in the nation. Because of that, the Bruins were voted to finish 4th in the conference in the Pac-12 Media Day Preseason Poll and are the overall #23 team in the country per the AP Preseason Poll. That is a jump in expectations if we ever saw one.

Still, under the leadership of head coach Cori Close, who is now in her fourth season boasting a 53-42 record in that time, the UCLA Women’s basketball team looks to make a statement this year and has the weapons to do it.

The superstar of this team is none other than junior guard Nirra Fields who is the returning leading scorer for the Bruins who averaged 17.3 ppg. She will get help from senior center Luiana Livulo who pulled down close to 5 boards a game last season. Add in the experience of Dominique Williams and Corinne Costa and you have a very formidable group of contenders on this squad. Now mix in the skills of the seven Bruins joining in this season and you have a serious collection of ball players that will not only be looking to fight their way back to the NCAA Tournament, but will be battling for the conference title in the process. I do not know about you, but Friday cannot get here soon enough!

Go Bruins!
