Perhaps as a result of UCLA football’s recent success or perhaps UCLA is just a good school, polls have shown UCLA to be the most popular Pac-12 football school in California. The results show UCLA was the favorite for 27% of those polled, which placed them barely in 1st place just ahead of Stanford at 26%. While close to Stanford, this result is nearly double of USC’s 14%.

Another interesting factor is that if you only look at the women, the edge that UCLA over Stanford is largely due to men. Only factoring in women gives an even 28% and 28% for both Stanford and UCLA. Another interesting bit of information shows that USC is unpopular with women, dropping from 14 to 11%. These numbers are within the margins for error, so take it with a grain of salt.

As tomorrow is election day, here is the data given a party preference- and this is interesting because there seems to be a pretty large split.

Among Democrats, UCLA is the top school once again, with 29%, with second place going to Cal (typically known as the leader in liberalism) with 27% of the vote. Liberals REALLY don’t like USC, however. With only 10% of the vote, a random person is roughly 3x more likely to like UCLA over USC if liberal. This could probably be explained by the relationship of public vs private school, but it’s still interesting.

Among Republicans, UCLA is #2, behind Stanford. Here, Stanford surges to 31% while UCLA drops down to 24%. So while conservatives also love UCLA, they really love Stanford. Here is something surprising though- USC doubles in support to 20%. Not surprisingly, Cal’s reputation as a liberal beacon leaves them with only 10%.

So the take away message here is that if you’re a random person, you probably love UCLA the most. You’ll also probably not have a bunch of love for USC if you’re liberal and likewise for Cal if you’re conservative.

Be sure to vote!
