Let's first look at some interesting information about Utah State.
The school itself is located in Logan, Utah, which is in the northeastern part of the state. Utah State University, commonly called USU, is a public university. The city of Logan has a good reputation as being named the "Best College Town" and having one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.
Their athletic program participates in the Mountain West Conference, but in the summer of 2026, they will join the newly revived Pac-12 Conference. Their basketball program has had success, with the period from 2000 to 2010 seeing six NCAA appearances, and they have made the NCAA tournament three of the last five seasons. They have a creative and imaginative student section called the HURD, and their basketball arena, the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, is well-known and respected. The best performance in the NCAA tournament was an Elite Eight run in 1970 when they ironically lost to UCLA in a high-scoring game.
Utah State is one of the well-known and respected mid-major basketball programs in the country. Many college basketball fans may remember their 88-72 NCAA tournament win over TCU last year or even their 2001 thrilling overtime NCAA tournament victory over Ohio State. They also captured the Mountain West conference regular season title in 2024.
The Aggies have had some coaching changes since Stew Morrill retired as the head coach of Utah State after being at the helm of the program for 17 seasons; they have had five different coaches since 2017. Their current head coach is Jerrod Calhoun, previously the head coach at Youngstown State.
