UCLA continued to knock the 2027 recruiting class out of the park. As they continue to get some great players out of Texas to commit to the program. Most recently being running back, Jayshon Gibson who had a stat line last season that is hard to believe. He had 233 carries for 2,263 yards and 41 touchdowns, while adding 19 catches for 387 yards and five touchdowns. He is the No. 67 ranked player in Texas and No. 36 running back in the nation.

Gibson will provide the Bruins with a long-term option at the running back position. With Wayne Knight set to get the majority of carries in 2026. He should still be with the program in 2027 as his first two years he didn’t play much allowing for another year of eligibility. He is a smaller running back as well, but is a very versatile player that can do a little of it all. At 5’9 and 185 pounds Gibson is of the build of Knight.

They both provide very good all-around talent. Gibson can easily learn for a season next to Knight before taking over duties in 2028. With UCLA also bringing in a bigger back to be a change of pace player. Gibson also held offers from Michigan, Arkansas and Kansas State. Choosing UCLA and providing Chesney and staff with a big-time recruiting win after an excellent two weeks. Putting them up to the No. 4 class for 2027 as ranked by 247sports.

Gibson has very good speed and participates in track and field as well. Straight line speed is something that he excels at. UCLA will be able to utilize him immediately if his commitment leads to a signing. If you can get him out in space, it will be tough to bring him down as he is quick and agile. There will not be many linebackers that can keep up with him 1-on-1 if he splits out wide or gets the edge.
