John Blackwell, according to 247sports is the second best player still left in the transfer portal. He has also received a ton of interest from UCLA and even visited the school. The belief is that UCLA has a real shot to land him as a transfer. UCLA currently has two open scholarship spots left. Blackwell would round out a really good transfer class for this team. Putting them in good contention in the Big Ten for 2026.

Blackwell is a legit scorer at all three levels. He can get downhill to the basket and space the floor with his good long range shooting. He would easily slot in as a top scoring option for the Bruins and create one of the best back courts in the nation with Trent Perry. Giving UCLA a good opportunity to go after a Big Ten title. While also developing the mixture of younger players as well.
With only two recruits coming in for this recruiting class in Joe Philon and Javonte Floyd. The transfer portal had to be kind to the Bruins to fill out all their roster spots. As well as internal recruiting keeping guys. They were able to keep everyone with the exception of Skyy Clark. Who is an even guaranteed to get another year of eligibility to play in college. As he still awaits a decision on that extra year from the NCAA.

UCLA has made the best case that they can to Blackwell in hopes that they can lure him to Westwood. You’d only get him for one season as he is set to be a senior, but he would be a tremendous grab for this team. Especially one with two straight round of 32 exits. Without much success since the 2023 season, which was the last time they even reached the Sweet 16. Blackwell would energize this team with his elite scoring.
