UCLA started out their game on Tuesday night against Cal Poly a little slow. They entered the game with the final line of a whopping 66-point favorite. The score was 17-11 in the first quarter. There was a timeout in play and that’s when UCLA decided to take off. From that point they finished the game on a 98-17 run and won 115-28. Absolute domination and easily covering the 66 point spread. There was really nothing on the night that UCLA did wrong. Other than miss more free throws than they usually do.

The Bruins were able to force 31 turnovers on the night turning those into 59 points. Meaning off of turnovers they converted almost every opportunity. They shot 58% from the floor and continued their hot shooting from deep as they shot 43%. They held Cal Poly to only 28% shooting from the field and 31% from 3-point range. UCLA also had 19 steals compared to Cal Poly’s 0 and turned that into 28 fast break points.

It was expected that UCLA was going to run away with this game. But the pure domination of how they did it was outstanding. They also won the rebound battle 46 to 15 and the points in the paint battle 56 to 12. Whatever Cori Close said at that timeout where it was 17-11 worked and the Bruins responded. Lauren Betts had another double double with 20 and 10 and all five Bruins starters scored at least 14 points. Kiki Rice and Gianna Kneepkens both shot the lights out as well and felt like the team wouldn’t miss.

UCLA is now 10-1 on the season. As they continued for the second straight week as No. 4 in the AP polls. They will have another home matchup this weekend against Long Beach state. Another game they should win very easily. Allowing them to move to 11-1 on the season as they approach Big Ten playagain playing great basketball. It also helps that star recruit Sienna Betts made her return against Cal Poly. Giving Close another option in talent coming off of the bench.
