UCLA on the season is the 22nd best team in the nation at shooting 3-pointers at a clip of 37.8%. But they are 291st in the nation at attempts per game with 20.2. That is a large gap between the two considering their offense has struggled for quite a bit of this season. They are not utilizing their strengths correctly. As they’re not very good on offense in paint production. When you have such a good shooting team, why not shoot the ball? Live and die by the 3-point shot is an understatement here.

The Bruins currently have three really good 3-point shooters in Skyy Clark, Tyler Bilodeau and Trent Perry. All three are at the top of 3-point percentage in the Big Ten. UCLA will need a spark down the stretch to make the NCAA tournament. They will need to up their 3-point attempts per game. Led by their top three and hoping they can get hot and make a late season run. They need something similar to 2020 if they are to have any Cinderella hopes this season.

March is all about who can get hot at the right time. But with the way UCLA is trending. They’re not even going to make it to that point if it continues. 3-point shooting is their bright spot on offense, and it is time to take full advantage of it. Especially with Clark back in the starting lineup. You have three guys who can effectively space the floor, hopefully to open up driving lanes to fully utilize Donovan Dent. Who has struggled for consistency this season.

UCLA over the years has been mainly known for defense. Now they have flipped the script and have the guys to be able to space the floor. In 2024 they didn’t have consistent shooting. Now that they do, they have lost the identity to figure out what will win them basketball games. Sadly, that has been a trend all season. They’re now at the point where you can’t say they will figure it out eventually. Because that clock will run out after Saturday against Illinois.
