Trent Perry’s ascension has been fascinating to watch. He has quietly started to become the Bruins best player since going into the starting lineup. Tyler Bilodeau still leads the team in scoring. But Perry has been excellent and continues to shine each night. Although it has taken a lot of the bench production away. UCLA would not sit at 17-7 right now without Perry’s contributions. As he is scoring and defending at a great level. Showing his rise from freshman to sophomore year.

Perry led the Bruins with 23 points against Washington last night. Going 3-3 from 3-point range and spacing the floor well and winning his matchups. On the season he is now up to 12.6 points per game on 45.7/44.6/85.3 shooting splits. He is able to create his own shot and can get to the free-throw line at a good rate, displaying his array of scoring skills. Over the last 10 games he is averaging 16.7 points per game and in nine of those 10 games he has been in double figures.
Trent Perry's sophomore jump is helping the Bruins weather the Skyy Clark injury
During Perry’s freshman year, he was seen as a defensive spark plug. Coming into Games to provide energy and to guard some players to save the energy levels of starters. Similar to something that Russell Westbrook did back in the Ben Howland days. A raw prospect his freshman year that could defend right off the bat. But the offense was seen as a work in progress. Only to see a sophomore year jump off the charts.
UCLA's ceiling is much lower without Skyy Clark, but the bright spot for the Bruins over the last month has been the development of Trent Perry.

Scored 23 tonight in the Bruins' win over Washington.
17, 10 assists, and six rebounds for Donovan Dent. https://t.co/v0q6ElzUiT
Perry is doing just that he is providing the Bruins with great offense and defense with Skyy Clark out. It will be interesting to see what happens when Clark does return. But there is no way that Perry goes back to the bench. It will give Mick Cronin a decision to make to try and kickstart his bench. As the Bruins starters are scoring about 95% of their points right now. Some bench play will be needed as that is a dangerous game to play.
