A very talented defensive guard has now entered the transfer portal. As Wright St. sees TJ Burch enter his name into the many players that are testing out the portal. Burch is legit and was named Horizon League DPOY last season after averaging 2.6 steals per game. He is a guy that can go out and guard some of the best players and affect the game on the defensive end. He can also score the ball pretty well at 12.4 points per game.

Burch who spent his freshman season at Ball St. wanted more of an opportunity and transferred to Wright St. last season. He received that opportunity and made the most of it with the talent that he has. His name will generate a ton of interest due to his defensive ability and his growth in scoring. Two-way players at any level of basketball are hard to come by. Burch is that type of player.

There figures to be a ton of interest in him amongst teams at high majors. UCLA preachers defense under the Mick Cronin system, and this is a perfect fit for their defense. A guard that can defend at a high level and affect the game from the top of the perimeter. The Bruins struggled with inconsistencies on defense in 2025 and are looking to correct that as they go into the 2026 season.

Burch is the second talented defensive guard to enter his name into the transfer portal. Right behind another target we believe would be great for UCLA in Miles Byrd from San Diego State. The Bruins need to bring in talent through the portal if they want to escape the round of 32. A third straight season without a Sweet 16 appearance will start to create a restless fanbase. Burch is a guy that could help this team from the start and will have two years of eligibility left.
