This is an overview of the process behind the Big Ten basketball power rankings, utilizing four distinct analytical college basketball ranking systems.
The Barttorvik college basketball ranking system, which uses a more subjective assessment of team strengths, compiles information and statistics from various sources to establish its rankings. T-Rank is the official name of the system, but most people just refer to it as Barttorvik.
KenPom's advanced analytics list the 364 collegiate basketball teams that make up Division I for the 2024–2025 season. An Adjusted Efficiency Margin (AdjEM) is the primary metric and method for team ranking. It calculates a club's point differential per 100 possessions on a neutral court, among other things.
Evan Miya CBB Rankings offers a sophisticated analytic ranking system for college basketball, akin to KenPom, with a stronger emphasis on player ratings, game predictions, and additional insights.
ESPN's BPI is the fourth ranking system used in these rankings.
