Steven Jamerson II was one of UCLA's portal pickups in the offseason and he is looking to help UCLA with their frontcourt depth in his debut in Westwood. UCLA played a lot of small ball in the 2024-25 season, which included Tyler Bilodeau at the center position. But now the Bruins look to get back to a traditional set lineup. Jamerson II will pair with Michigan State transfer Xavier Booker to handle the post down low.

By adding two portal pickups this will allow Bilodeau and Eric Dailey Jr. to downsize their positions and return to power forward and small forward. Jamerson II can start or come off the bench and interchange with Booker. Giving Mick Cronin and staff the opportunity to go with the hot hand or play the matchup based on strength and weakness. At the University of San Diego last season, Jamerson averaged 10 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He excels in pick and rolls and will be a great dump off for the guards.

UCLA will have the benefit of being able to play guys for longer periods of time at the center position. As Aday Mara at his 7'3 size wore down rather quickly and teams would downsize to take advantage of it leaving Cronin in a tough spot. William Kyle III didn't play out the way UCLA had hoped and was phased out of the rotation as he shot 39% from the free throw line.
UCLA made a lot of great moves this portal season, Booker, Jamerson II, Donovan Dent and Jamar Brown all have the opportunity to contribute right away. Cronin is entering an integral year as head coach. He has had a few deep runs and a few flame outs. If all the cards go the right way he could get over the hump and return to 2021 form where UCLA went from First Four to Final Four.
