Semaj Morgan was another receiver that the Bruins received commitment from on Wednesday. The news coming before Landon Ellis committed later on in the day. Adding to a tremendous set of pass catchers that Bob Chesney and his staff were able to haul in through the transfer portal. One that has become so popular in his short time as the UCLA head coach. That is the name of the game these days. There are 1,000’s of players in the portal. Usually that is the route to go because some of these guys can help you win right now.

Morgan has big game experience. He won a championship with Michigan back in 2023. Navigating through the Big Ten, so he knows what the gauntlet is going to be like. Over his three years at Michigan. He had 69 catches for 566 yards and four touchdowns. Morgan can also provide someone who can return punts and do much more than just get in there and call a fair catch. He has 25 returns for 231 yards in his college career. Including three his freshman season for 101 yards. A spark in the special teams is much needed after a down year for the Bruins.
Morgan is a shorter receiver standing at 5’10. But similar to another new Bruins commit in Wayne Knight. He is a very good gadget player that can operate as even more than that. The Bruins need guys that can get in space and make plays. They added that to their offense and became more dynamic within 12 hours of work. They have now given Nico Iamaleava new weapons to throw to on offense. Then most importantly gave him players upfront to protect him in the pocket.

Chesney and the recruiting staff is off to a rolling start. It is far from finished, but the start has been amazing. When you can go out and get players that can help you right now. You go and do it. NIL and transfers make it much easier in college football to turn along rebuild into a short one. Players no longer have to sit out for a year, and you can offer them opportunities at more. It’s a reality now as much as some people may dislike it. So, you have to catch up to the times and make it happen.
