Scooter Jackson was part of a trio of defensive backs that UCLA brought back for the 2026 season. Along with two other standouts from 2025 in Cole Martin and Rodrick Pleasant. The defensive backfield was a bright spot for the Bruins in a season that didn’t see many great moments. The past defense held up really well with no pass rush or sacks most games. All three figure to play big roles in 2026 and only continue to get better.

Jackson led all UCLA players with two interceptions last season. Which actually amounted to half of the total for the entire team of four on the season. They ranked near the bottom of the nation in turnovers. That number will skyrocket under a Bob Chesney and Colin Hitschler defensive system. Jackson will get his fair share of opportunities as well.

Jackson is a very versatile player that will be able to move around the defense. Giving many options to the UCLA coaching staff to give different looks on defense. Jackson can lineup inside or on the outside. While also being a sure, enough tackler to play in a box safety position as well. He has good size at 6’1 and 185 pounds and moves fluidly in-and-out of breaks. Allowing him to move around on the defense and make a positive impact at multiple positions and being able to tackle and hit.

He will be a welcome back addition to this defense as they figure to take a big step in a positive direction. With a whole new defensive line coming in, getting to the quarterback will help the defensive backs a ton. Rush rate will force more interception opportunities and sacks will help with forced fumbles. Two areas that UCLA needed to improve to help get back to a dominant defense.
