Eric Bieniemy's hiring at UCLA is now official.
His Role at UCLA is the following.
- Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Bruins.
- Bieniemy will be a key member of the coaching staff, assisting newly hired head coach Deshaun Foster with overall team management and specifically leading the offensive unit's strategy and play calling.
UCLA hired him for many reasons.
- Experience and Success: Bieniemy brings a strong resume with 16 years of NFL coaching experience, most recently as offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders and previous to that, for the Kansas City Chiefs where they won Super Bowls LIV and LVII.
- Offensive Expertise: He's known for his ability to design and implement productive offensive schemes, something UCLA hopes will make their offense more consistent through out the season.
- UCLA Ties: This isn't Bieniemy's first stint at UCLA. He previously coached the Bruins' running backs from 2003-2005 as well as being their recruiting coordinator in 2005 as well.
Interesting Notes on the hiring of Bieniemy.
- There was some speculation that Bieniemy might of been passed over for a head coaching position in the NFL despite his success as an offensive coordinator. However, his hiring is a great addition for the Bruins as he brings a ton of coaching experience to Westwood.
- He clarified that his move to UCLA was his choice and an opportunity to return to his California roots.
Overall, UCLA is looking to Bieniemy's experience and leadership to boost their offensive performance and potentially become a contender in the Big Ten conference in the next couple of seasons.
