The 2024 season would kick off the Deshaun Foster era. After Chip Kelly left late in the recruiting cycle. UCLA had to scramble and look for the next man to lead the team. Foster was off to coach running backs for the Las Vegas Raiders and was then offered the gig. He accepted and UCLA was ready for a new chapter with an alum at the helm. One that had done so much for UCLA football as an assistant and a player that has his name in record books for the school.

Foster got a late start as mostly all players had signed or transferred. Kelly left the school in a tough spot so it was scramble to see what could happen with the roster. Players seemed to buy in to the culture and Foster seemed like a good glue guy that had already built relationships with players as an assistant. With a move coming to the Big Ten, they needed to work overtime to make this thing happen.

Foster got off to a rough start at Big Ten media day and became quite the meme for freezing on stage. But made the most of it laughing and joking about the incident. If he could win football games all would be forgotten about that moment. That is the most important part, and fans were hoping the reason he was selected to be the next head coach for the move. Those plans got off to a tough start as UCLA started 1-5 which should've been 0-6 but they squeaked by late against Hawaii. As the defense played decent, but the offense struggled badly.

The Bruins did go on three game Big Ten winning streak to go 4-5 before finishing 5-7 and almost sneaking into a bowl game. It gave hope that Foster was finding his footing and could be a good coach for the future. With a whole offseason to recruit and bring in transfers, UCLA could imrove upon that mark in 2025 and make a run at a bowl game. Unfortunately, Foster would only get three more games after this as head coach of the Bruins.
