Leland Smith was an addition by the UCLA Bruins in the transfer portal. As he came over from San Jose State after his 2025 season. It was an addition that probably was overlooked by many Smith is a very good player, but not many people saw him as he was at a small school. Last season he had 43 catches for 688 yards and three touchdowns. Displaying his ability to make big plays. 16 yards per catch is much higher than the average for a wide receiver. He can stretch the field while also going to get a jump ball.
At 6’4, there are not many defensive backs that will be able to match up with that size. He also has good speed and can get down the field to make plays for his quarterback. With more opportunities, he could become 1,000-yard receiver and a star within the UCLA offense proving to the nation that he could be one of the better transfer portal additions for 2026. Bob Chesney and staff were very smart to jump on him quick and get him to commit. Pairing him with Landon Ellis to give Nico Iamaleava a new set of receivers to help him.
THAT IS WHAT LELAND SMITH DOES ‼️

Leland Smith can stretch the field and catch the ball at the highest point
The UCLA offense struggled heavily in 2025. A big reason was the offensive line could not protect their quarterback. Now that problem is resolved, and Iamaleava will have more time to find his receivers. Smith will be someone who will benefit greatly from what the offense plans on doing. As he looks to make the most of his second opportunity at a power four school. Before San Jose State he spent one season at Purdue.

Smith is legit, there is no way around it. He will give the Bruins someone who can run a fade route or a go route and have a chance at every ball. His size gives him an opportunity in every contested matchup to get the ball at the highest point. Putting him in position to be a 1,000-yard receiver in 2026 and becoming an NFL caliber player with a breakout season. His size and fluidity cannot be taught and something many scouts covet. UCLA will give him every chance to show what he can provide.
