Kwazi Gilmer is the latest Bruin to hit the transfer portal. He had given no indication about staying or leaving recently. But now with this news it appears he will test the waters to see what is out there. It is not a guarantee that he will leave as a player can exit the portal just as fast as they entered. But it will be intriguing to see the options that are out there. Gilmer has the talent to succeed; he was a four star recruit coming out of high school and chose UCLA.

Gilmer has two seasons left of eligibility in college. It is hard to gauge what he did for UCLA last year. As consistency was not something that many players had on offense. With the number of changes that were happening and so many moving pieces. The offense struggled on many occasions. Only truly shining for the Penn State and Michigan State games. There were also offensive line issues that led to UCLA not being able to air the ball out deep.

He has good speed and has been able to bulk up in his two years in college. Coming out of high school he weighed 180 pounds; he is now above 190 pounds. That has helped him be able to fight off jams on the line and contest for the ball. He will go into traffic and make catches. On the season he had 50 catches for 535 yards and four touchdowns. With one of his best games of the season coming in the last game against USC. He had 10 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.

There will be interest in him as he hits the transfer portal. Bob Chesney and his staff will start to evaluate players and give indications of directions they are going. They were able to get Cole Martin out of the transfer portal to stay at UCLA. It is possible that Gilmer could do the same. He has potential and two years left in college. But a team out there looking to boost their offense could offer him a better opportunity. The tools are there for him to succeed and continue to make another jump.
