Julius Halaifonua is a true center that is still sitting in the transfer portal

UCLA has been interested in a traditional true center through the transfer portal this offseason. They haven’t been really paired with any as they have been searching for a taller guard that can operate as a wing. But now with players starting to commit and the portal dwindling. The Bruins have two open scholarships available to go out and make a move. A player that still remains available is Georgetown center Julius Halaifonua. With three years of eligibility remaining.

Halaifonua spent two seasons with Georgetown as their center. Playing in a total of 38 games and averaging 8.4 points and four rebounds per game. He only played in six games his freshman year, which should give him another year of eligibility in the future. This past season as a sophomore he had a decent season for the Hoyas, averaging 9.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Doing so on 60.8% shooting from the field.

Standing at 7’0 feet tall he is a traditional center that could step in right away for the Bruins. Being able to send someone out there as a big man. While also being able to play the match up as best as possible. With Xavier Booker providing the athletic presence at the center position. As Booker will never be a player that will play back to the basket, but is very good in pick and roll and blocking shots.

The last two spots open for the Bruins will be very interesting to see where they go. The two positions that they should be looking at is a center and a wing. They’re currently interested Tounde Yessoufou as they look to bring in another scorer for this offense. But Halaifonua would be a tremendous addition as a center for this team. The multiple years of eligibility helps out a ton as well with development.
