Russell Westbrook spent two seasons at UCLA in 2006 and 2007. Before declaring for the 2008 NBA Draft. Where he would be the No. 4 overall pick of the Seattle SuperSonics who shortly after that draft became the Oklahoma City Thunder. Westbrook was seen as a project point guard that could develop over time. He had a ton of athleticism and was an elite defender in the Pac-10. It did not take long for him to become the starter in Oklahoma City.

The Thunder were not a very good team in Westbrook’s rookie season. But then again all of them were 18 and 19 years old. They began to have their ascent very fast as a team. With Kevin Durant, James Harden and Serge Ibaka alongside Westbrook. It gave him the opportunity to develop as a point guard and become one of the best pastors in the league. Which he is now seventh all time in assists. With 66 more assists he will reach the top 5 in NBA history.

Westbrook is one of the greatest point guards in NBA history. He is now No. 14 all time in scoring with 27,013 points and is reaching closer to the coveted mark in assists for top 5. Then you can go ahead and top that off with No. 14 all time in steals with 2,025. Westbrook has put together an amazing career that keeps chugging along. He has received so much criticism over his career, but he shows up every single night and performs. He rarely ever takes a game off as well, treating fans that paid to see him play.

As each game goes by, we will see if Westbrook can make the top 5 before the season ends. His career is starting to hit the last few years. But it has been amazing to watch him over his 18-year career to accomplish all that he has accomplished. The only thing that is missing on his résumé as a championship. Hopefully he will get the opportunity at one more go at it. Maybe possibly with the Oklahoma City Thunder next year?
