DeShaun Foster had a rough tenure as the UCLA head coach for 15 games. He went 5-7 in his first season, with glimmers of hope towards the end. As he almost got to the six-win mark for a bowl game appearance after a tough 1-5 start to the season. They were able to win three straight games to get to 4-5 and played decent in the Washington and USC matchups. With a good transfer class coming in for 2025 which included Nico Iamaleava. It was seen as a year to make things happen.

Things came crashing down as UCLA started this season 0-3 under Foster. With two of those games as big favorites for the Bruins against UNLV and New Mexico. They were very underwhelming in both games leading to Foster being relieved of his duties. There hasn’t been much chatter about his future until recently. He has been linked to the Oklahoma running backs position with DeMarco Murray departing for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Foster has been a great running backs coach in college. He has coached at both Texas Tech and UCLA. Helping players like Zach Charbonnet, Brittain Brown and Joshua Kelley become standout backs. He knows how to coach the position well as he was also one of the best running backs in UCLA history. This would be a good hire for the Sooners and one that would bring experience to the position. While also providing the leadership from a former head coach.

The future remains to be seen if Foster will ever be a head coach again. But there are many coaches who did not succeed in their first stint as a head coach. Then went back to a positions coach and worked their way up to the top again. This could be the start of something for Foster if that is his goal again. Oklahoma is a top tier school with plenty of attraction. This would be the perfect landing spot for him to build his resume back up.
