Dante Lovett entered the transfer portal this past offseason looking for an opportunity at more playing time. He had spent three seasons at Virginia Tech, redshirting this past season. Giving him two years of eligibility remaining in college to grow within a system. He chose Bob Chesney and UCLA as his next school to try and help him take his game to the next level. He should have the opportunity to have some good playing time in the defensive backfield.

Lovett is a 3-star transfer and was the No. 56 ranked transfer corner and No. 570 ranked player overall by 247sports. He has 36 career tackles and an interception to his name in college. As of right now, he is second on the depth chart at the cornerback position behind Scooter Jackson. But with the ability of Jackson and Cole Martin to move around the defense with versatility. That gives Lovett a great chance to carve out some playing time.

Chesney and defensive coordinator Colin Hitschler will have the ability to throw out a ton of defensive looks. Some that will include Lovett and giving him chances to make plays and make a name for himself. With two years of eligibility remaining, he can grow within the backfield. Giving him the opportunity to have more playing time than his career at Virginia Tech.

Lovett provides very good size on the outside at 6’0 and 200 pounds. Allowing him to keep up with speedy players as well as jam at the line with his size. Playing at Virginia Tech, which is in a power conference gave him great experience. Now he looks to translate it all with UCLA and help mix with the returning players to shut down passing games. It will help tremendously that UCLA upgraded their pass rush as well.
