Bob Chesney is changing the entire future of UCLA football. The new head coach of the Bruins is creating a fun environment at practice and the vibes are great again around the Wasserman Center. But in between all of that is what he is doing on the recruiting trail. After a transport portal season that saw him go get 41 new players. He is using the 2027 class as his first full recruiting class to make waves early.

The Bruins are now up to the No. 17 ranked class by 247sports as they’re bringing in some top talent. While they’re in the mix for even more talent. Bruins fans have not seen this type of recruiting since Jim Mora and his staff were bringing in elite players. Chesney is a man on a mission with his recruiting team to get UCLA football back into contention. A rebuild that has been accelerated by their efforts.

The Bruins have a brand new team for the 2026 season. With so many transfers it will be interesting to see how players fit in. But to bring back your quarterback in Nico Iamaleava over everything just shows things are shifting at UCLA. He felt good enough in the culture and what is being built to stick around for another season after a rough first year. Especially one that saw him hurt so many times behind the offensive line.

The Bruins went out and completely upgraded the trenches at every position on offense and defense. They will be a hard-nosed football team again that could win at the point of attack. We fully expect with the amount of interest they have in other players as well that UCLA will have a top 10 class in 2027. It has been so fun to watch what this staff is doing, and they’re only scratching the surface of what they’re capable of.
