UCLA is in a little bit of a conundrum when it comes to the center position. Do they feel comfortable rolling Xavier Booker out as the starter? Although he will never be a back to the basket type of center. Or would they like to go out and get a traditional big man to be able to mail the post? That question remains to be answered as the offseason rolls along. But an intriguing name that could come up in the transfer portal is Andrew McKeever from St. Mary’s. He just recently entered his name into the portal.

At 7’3 he is an absolute giant in the middle that could be a double double machine for UCLA. The Bruins made a mistake with Aday Mara and didn’t utilize him correct correctly in their system. They’re now paying for that mistake as they watch him succeed for Michigan going to the Final Four. Now there could be the opportunity that they look at another 7’3 player to right the wrong. McKeever does not have the talent of Mara passing or blocking shots, but you can’t teach size.

Last season McKeever averaged 8.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He could give UCLA an option to post up down low for easy baskets. Booker could be a guy that could stretch the floor for them off of the bench. When the team was healthy, Booker was playing a big role as the sixth man. Maybe that is something for his confidence and his game moving forward. While UCLA brings in a traditional center to start.

McKeever like many other players in the transfer portal will have heavy interest in him. With the size that he has there will be schools that will offer him just based on that. He moves pretty well on the floor and has room for growth on defense. Maybe UCLA could insert their names into the interest list. As they’ll need to make some moves this offseason to help build a contender again.
