A disastrous start to the 2025 season now leaves UCLA without a head coach

UCLA has started the season 0-3 and, with no light at the end of the tunnel, is now left without a head coach.

After going 5-7 in his first season with UCLA and then 0-3 to start this season, the Bruins have decided to move on from head coach DeShaun Foster. UCLA has suffered losses from Utah, who is now a Top 25 ranked opponent, UNLV, and most recently New Mexico this season averaging just 14.3 points per game on offense and allowing an average of 36 points to opponents.

Foster was brought in before the 2024 season, which just so happened to be UCLA's first season in the Big Ten and ended with a 5-10 overall record with the Bruins.

"I want to extend my sincere appreciation to DeShaun for his contributions to UCLA Football over the course of many years," UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond said in a statement. "First as a Hall of Fame student-athlete, then as an assistant coach, and finally as head coach."

Tim Skipper, who was previously the special assistant to Foster, will take over as interim head coach for the Bruins.

Foster had a lot of history at UCLA, first as a player for the Bruins from 1998 to 2001 as a running back, and he set multiple records at the school. Foster went on to play in the NFL from 2002 to 2008 before retiring and becoming a coach, starting as a graduate assistant at UCLA.

Foster had two different stints at UCLA, with one stint at Texas Tech before being named the head coach in 2024. Before that, he was the running backs coach and was promoted to the position after former head coach Chip Kelly left to be the offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

This was set to be a big season for the Bruins after landing former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava in the transfer portal. However, Iamaleava has yet to perform to the expectations that were set for him before the season, which has also led to the very rough start for the Bruins.

UCLA will now be on the hunt yet again for a new head coach, and there is hope that the next one will have a little more head coaching experience.
