UCLA Basketball: Players ranked in ESPN’s Top 100 Newcomer Impact Rankings
By Ryan Kay
ESPN’s Newcomer Impact Rankings are a resource for college basketball fans who want to learn more about the top newcomers to college basketball for this season. UCLA had multiple players in their newest rankings.
The rankings are based on a variety of factors, including talent, experience, and fit. They are a great way to identify potential stars and breakout players for the upcoming season according to the criteria ESPN follows for these rankings.
UCLA has multiple players in these ESPN rankings and let’s take a look at who is ranked and where are they ranked in these preseason player rankings.
ESPN is quoted as saying that Mara is, “The best international prospect entering college basketball this season”. Mara was recently cleared to play by the NCAA to play in the Bruins season opener and he should have a huge impact on how well UCLA plays this season. His height combined with his ability to score from various places on the court, is why he is ranked in the top 25.
ESPN has Buyuktuncel like Mara as a potential “one and done” international prospect due to his potential talent and his ability to play and contribute right away for the Bruins. Unlike Mara, Buyuktuncel is still waiting for final clearance from the NCAA for UCLA’s season opener. However, there is still a decent chance he gets cleared to play sooner than later. He is talented and should be a force for the Bruins this season.
