1978 Fiesta Bowl: No partying at the Fiesta Bowl

On December 25, 1978, the UCLA Bruins and Arkansas Razorbacks tied 10-10 in the Fiesta Bowl, so neither team got to party in Tempe Arizona. UCLA running back James Owens and Arkansas defensive tackle Jimmy Walker were named co-MVPs of the game.

Arkansas scored first after UCLA quarterback Steve Bukich fumbled while being sacked by Jim Howard to set up the Razorbacks at the Bruins 37-yard line. Roland Sales capped off that drive with a four-yard touchdown run to give the Razorbacks the lead. Arkansas led 10-0 at halftime. UCLA answered with a field goal on its first drive of the second half and then tied it up on a Bukich 14-yard touchdown run with 8:32 remaining in the fourth quarter.

UCLA finished the season at 8-3-1 in Donahue’s third season and was ranked No. 14 in the final AP Poll.
