2007 Las Vegas Bowl: BYU avenges an early season loss

2007 was ultimately Karl Dorrell’s final season at the helm in LA. He was replaced by DeWayne Walker at the end of the regular season and Walker finished his tenure as interim head coach at 0-1 with a loss to BYU in the 2007 Las Vegas Bowl.

BYU won the game 17-16 to finish the season 11-2 and drop UCLA to 6-7. BYU wide receiver and future target of Peyton Manning, Austin Collie was the game’s MVP. Earlier in the season, UCLA beat BYU 27-17, but the Cougars closed the season on a 10-game win streak.

After the season, former UCLA quarterback Rick Neuheisel was named the team’s head coach, coming over from the Baltimore Ravens where he served as offensive coordinator. In 2008 UCLA went 4-8 and missed a bowl.
