1947 Rose Bowl: Bruins Blown out by Illinois
This time around there was no shortage of points in Pasadena, but the only problem for Bert LaBrucherie’s 10-0 UCLA Bruins was they weren’t the team scoring them. UCLA would finish the season at 10-1 after losing to the Illini 45-14 to fall to 0-2 in Rose Bowl games.
The running game was key for the Illini and the co-MVPs of the game were running backs Buddy Young and Julius Rykovich.
This was LaBrucherie’s best season as the head coach of the Bruins, a tenure that lasted four years. It was his only bowl game appearance and UCLA was the No. 4 team in the country.
