1986 Freedom Bowl: Big game for Gaston Green
During the regular season, Arizona State beat UCLA at home in Pasadena and the Bruins ended the year with three losses and a tie, so the Sun Devils went to the Rose Bowl and UCLA had to settle for a matchup against BYU in Anaheim.
Gaston Green was the star of this game. The running back went for 266 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The game was 7-3 UCLA at halftime, but in the third quarter, Green took over and added his second and third touchdowns along with a field goal to extend the Bruins’ lead to 24-3.
UCLA finished the season with a record of 7-3-1 and was ranked No. 14 in the AP Poll after entering the year at No. 4.
