UCLA Football: Where are they ranked heading into week 4
By Ryan Kay
Is UCLA getting the respect and recognition that they may deserve?
There are primarily two types of rankings that are widely recognized in college football.
National rankings are based on the votes of sportswriters and media members. The AP Top 25 poll and the AFCA Coaches Poll are the two most widely recognized national rankings.
Power rankings are based on a variety of factors, including strength of schedule, margin of victory, and overall performance. ESPN’s Power Rankings are one of the most popular power rankings but other publications like CBS Sports have a widely read power ranking as well.

UCLA football is currently ranked 22nd in the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll and 25th in the AFCA Today Coaches Poll, which are the two most widely recognized national rankings in college football. UCLA is also ranked 23rd in the ESPN Power Rankings.
UCLA’s rise in the rankings is due to their strong start to the 2023 season. The Bruins are 3-0, with wins over Coastal Carolina, San Diego State, and North Carolina Central. UCLA has been particularly impressive on offense, averaging 40.3 points per game. The Bruins are also ranked 24th in the nation in total defense.
UCLA’s next game is a tough road test against Utah, who is ranked 11th in the AP Top 25 poll. If UCLA can win that game, they could move up even further in the rankings.
