UCLA football cruised to a 35-10 victory over San Diego State on Saturday. Let’s break down the performances from the Week Two road trip.
Quarterback: A
Last week, Dante Moore was tremendous in relief, but on Saturday, we got to see what he’s do with a full 60 minutes. He didn’t disappoint.
Moore threw for 290 and three touchdowns against San Diego State, and this week he did so to a far more balanced receiving group. His ability to spread the ball around, and not just eye down J Michael Sturdivant, was that of a veteran.
This was an extremely encouraging start for the man who has undoubtedly solidified his spot as the Bruins’ starter.
Running Back: A
The Bruins were great on the ground on Saturday night. TJ Harden gained 91 yards on nine carries. Carson Steele picked up 84 yards on 12 carries. Anthony Adkins and Colson Yankoff got in on the action as well, combing for 45 yards on nine carries.
UCLA gained yards with ease on their way to a total of 254. The highlight of the night was a 59-yard touchdown scamper by Harden to put the Bruins up 21-7 in the second quarter.
Receiver: A
As mentioned prior, the ball was spread around much more than a week ago. J Michael Sturdivant caught just two balls for 23 yards, but no Bruin caught more than four.
Logan Loya led the way with four catches for 77 yards, and Josiah Norwood hauled in two for 87. Kam Brown gained 22 yards on two catches, and Kyle Ford another two catches for 21 yards.
Dante Moore was in point guard mode, and all his wideouts benefitted.
Offensive Line: B
The offensive line was good, but not great on Saturday night.
The good? They paved the way for those 254 rushing yards and mostly protected Moore.
The faults? They did allow two sacks and five tackles for loss.
