The Shooters Lineup

  • PG: Tyger Campbell (R-Fr) 5’11, 185
  • SG: David Singleton (So) 6’4, 205
  • SF: Jamie Jaquez (Fr) 6’6, 210
  • PF: Jules Bernard (So) 6’6, 205
  • C: Jalen Hill (R-So) 6’10, 240

Shooting was not one of UCLA’s strengths last season, but they did have a few players that were nearly automatic, plus they add one from the last recruiting class. Singleton is the biggest threat from behind the arc as he turned into quite the assassin. His .467 three-point field goal percentage was second in the conference. If he is paired up with Kyman, UCLA will be very dangerous from downtown. Additionally, having Bernard shoot from mid-range and Hill under the basket (he was .563 from the field last year, only behind Moses Brown) will give the Bruins a lineup that will put up a lot of points.

Power Bench

  • PG: David Singleton (So) 6’4, 205
  • SG: Jake Kyman (Fr) 6’6, 210
  • SF: Jamie Jaquez (Fr) 6’6, 210
  • PF: Shareef O’Neal (R-Fr) 6’9, 215
  • C: Kenny Nwuba (So) 6’9, 250

This is proof that the Bruins have talent. A few of these players could be starters, and they just might, but if we are going off of the starting lineup that was previously listed, then this would be a solid backup. Here we have Singleton starting because if Campbell is out, he might be the go-to backup point guard. Kyman has good ball control and could be an option there, but he will still bring good minutes off the bench, same with Jaquez. And can you imagine a player like O’Neal coming off the bench? That’s just an embarrassment of riches.

Defensive Lineup

  • PG: David Singleton (So) 6’4, 205
  • SG: Prince Ali (R-Sr) 6’4, 195
  • SF: Jamie Jaquez (Fr) 6’6, 210
  • PF: Shareef O’Neal (R-Fr) 6’9, 215
  • C: Jalen Hill (R-So) 6’10, 240

Defense will be something that will return to Westwood. Though the majority of the roster was not required to play defense last year (please understand that this is hyperbole), it doesn’t mean they don’t know how. Singleton is a player that always hustles and should be a pretty solid defender. Ali is sneaky-quick and could help out limiting ball movement at the top of the key. Jaquez and O’Neal are fast for big men and could alter shots. As for Hill, I cannot wait to see what kind of defender he becomes. He will not only be able to clog the paint, but also alter shots and flat out block them.
