UCLA Basketball: A look at the talent the next head coach will inherit
Potential Depth Charts?
So with all of this in mind, let us look at potential depth charts. Again, remember that this includes 14 players, specifically in Projection 1. In Projection 2, we look at the depth with Hands moving on.
Projection 1
- PG: Jaylen Hands, Tyger Campbell
- SG: David Singleton, Chris Smith, Prince Ali
- SF: Jules Bernard, Jaime Jaquez, Jake Kyman
- PF: Cody Riley, Shareef O’Neal, Alex Olesinski
- C: Moses Brown, Jalen Hill, Kenny Nwuba
Projection 2
- PG: Tyger Campbell, David Singleton
- SG: Jules Bernard or Singleton, Jake Kyman, Prince Ali
- SF: Jaime Jaquez, Chris Smith
- PF: Cody Riley, Shareef O’Neal, Alex Olesinski
- C: Moses Brown, Jalen Hill, Kenny Nwuba
Even with Hands gone in Projection 2, the Bruins can go 11-deep. I do not see Olesinski nor Nwuba getting a lot of playing time (could this force a transfer?) as there will be a lot of talent in front of them to balance.
If Hands stays, the Bruins could have a killer lineup with Singleton, Bernard, Riley, and Brown. If Hands goes, Campbell will start at PG with Singleton backing him up, but I could also see Singleton starting at SG.
Similarly, depending on how is progress is heading into fall, O’Neal could possibly work his way into the starting PF spot.
Either way, there are a lot of combinations the new UCLA basketball head coach can choose from. And with that being said, the national media has no reason to start the “cupboard is bare” conversation. The cupboard is full and ready to play.
