UCLA Football: Play call/outcome analysis from the Arizona St game
By Chris Osgood
Homework
If you’ve enjoyed this column so far this year, I have two requests as we head into the homestretch:
- Open the google doc (details in the footnote below) and try to figure something, anything out. You can use the comments of this article or Twitter to bring anything at all forward. If you need a prompt; take a look at RB alignment side vs WR alignment side and/or TE alignment side. I really believe there are some interesting tendencies buried in there but haven’t able to bring anything interesting out yet.
- Lip readers – What was Chip screaming here? It’s probably him emphasizing some single code word or phrase that was called vs what some players executed, but I find this kind of thing endlessly fascinating.
Footnote
The google doc linked here has every UCLA offense play logged with the situation, pre-snap details, and post snap results. I like to look for how the situation and pre-snap looks inform play calling and results. In the past, I’ve done this (on staff) for the SBN NFL Chargers blog, and got a lot of great reader participation.
My hope is that readers look at it and find stuff along with me (something pre-snap is a tell, something else very successful). This post introduces the column has context for everything in the log.
