Today it was announced that the Bruins will be without their grad transfer O-lineman Justin Murphy who has suffered his third season-ending knee injury in three seasons.

Before Murphy decided on making Westwood his new home this last off-season, he took a medical retirement after sustaining knee injuries at Texas Tech in 2015 and 2016. After a year off, Murphy rehabilitated his knee and made the decision to get back into football. WIth Kelly joining the Bruins, he would accept an offer to join the program.

Murphy made an immediate impact during fall camp and was inserted into the starting lineup, playing both the right guard and tackle positions.

Murphy’s last game was at Colorado. He left the game in the fourth quarter after sustaining the injury and has not been back since.

This new injury, similar to the two previous, will require surgery. Murphy had a posted a picture of himself on Twitter asking the NCAA for another season of eligibility, hoping for a medical redshirt after this recent injury.

UCLA has already lost a number of Bruins to season-ending injuries this year with Murphy being the third this week. Yesterday, Kelly announced that linebackers Mique Juarez and Je’Vari Anderson would be out for the year due to concussions.

So far the UCLA football team has held their ailing roster together, but they can not afford many more injuries, especially along the offensive line and linebackers, which were thinned out, to begin with. If the Bruins can keep it together, they should have a squad that can carry them through the final five games of the season.
