8. Randy Newman

The University of California, Los Angeles is all about diversity and that goes the same for the music that comes out of Westwood.

Randy Newman is big in both the world of recording and scoring. He had studied music at UCLA but had a lot of influence from his family which breeds composers. That helped lead him to his path as not only songwriter and recording artist (he has a total of 11 studio albums), but also as a film composer. Needless to say, he has done it all in the music industry.

The famous among all of his songs is one that is often an anthem for Los Angeles sports teams… “I Love L.A.” Not only is this a musical tribute to one of the best cities in America, but it is rallying cry for fans to cheer on the championship sporting culture that L.A. holds so dear.

But that is not all. Newman has a plethora of both television and film compositions. The number is endless, but what is even more impressive is the amount of BAFTA, Grammy, Golden Globe and Academy Awards nominations and awards he has won since 1992.

And if you didn’t know what he has had a hand in, well maybe you have heard of a few small features such as The Natural, Awakenings, Parenthood, James and the Giant Peach, Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Monsters, Inc., just to name a few.
