The UCLA football team received their second commitment for the 2019 recruiting class as dynamic 3-star tight end Michael Martinez commits to the Bruins.

No need to worry about recruiting, Chip Kelly knows what he is doing.  Exactly one week ago, UCLA football did not have a single commitment to the 2019 recruiting class. Now they have two.

Last Friday, Chip Kelly got his first verbal with the commitment from 3-star quarterback Chase Griffin. Though it has been a slow process to start, with more and more offers being given out by the Bruins coaches as of late, we should begin to see a lot more commitments roll in.

Martinez is already an impressive player and should fit nicely into Chip Kelly’s system. The soon-to-be high school senior is already, 6’6, 245 lbs., which means he is probably not done growing.

It will be interesting to see what kind of player Martinez turns out to be in a few years as he already has fantastic blocking and catching abilities. With his big frame, he can help lead the offensive line on running plays, taking out the edge rushers. He has good upper body strength and has the ability to not just hold off defenders, but throw them to the ground.

As a past catcher, he is not exactly quick, but his big body creates space and with his consistent catching ability, especially with short routes, he’ll be a very formidable weapon for Kelly.

It’s going to take some time, but Kelly is slowly putting the future together. There are several exciting players he has already offered and if things fall in UCLA’s direction, we should see some top talent heading to Westwood in the next few years.
