Former UCLA football tight end Austin Roberts has signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent, the sixth to sign post-NFL Draft.

After leaving school early to try his luck in the 2018 NFL Draft, former UCLA football player, TE Austin Roberts, has found a home to continue his football career.

It has been reported that Roberts has signed with the Los Angeles Chargers after he worked out at rookie minicamp a few weeks ago.

Last season, Roberts was a key fixture the Bruins receiving game, though it came after top TE Caleb Wilson was injured midseason and had to sit out the last eight games. Roberts appeared in 10 games and caught 19 passes for 220 yards (5th on UCLA). He averaged 11.6 yards per catch and added 2 touchdowns to his stat sheet.

At 6’2, 230 lbs., Roberts has the size and speed to be a reliable pass-catcher, though he will need to add some mass and improve his blocking skills if he wants to see time on the field. That could happen under the right regimen and tutelage from an NFL coaching staff.

Roberts is the sixth former Bruin to not get drafted, yet sign post-draft as a free agent. Shortly after the NFL Draft, OL Najee Toran (San Francisco 49ers), DL Matt Dickerson (Tennessee Titans) and DL Jacob Tuioti-Mariner (Atlanta Falcons) had signed pro contracts. In the last few weeks, WR Darren Andrews (New England Patriots) and Jaleel Wadood (Hamilton Tiger-Cats-CFL) were able to find professional landing spots.
