Since 2014, the CBS Sports Classic has played host to the Bruins, Tar Heels, Kentucky Wildcats and the Ohio State Buckeyes, with each team playing one of the other three in consecutive seasons. Last year, UCLA defeated Kentucky 83-75 when they met in the Classic in New Orleans. Next season, the Bruins will face Ohio State at the United Center in Chicago on December 19.

For the 2019-20 season, North Carolina comes back around to face UCLA as the Classic will return to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 21, 2019. The doubleheader will also include Kentucky and Ohio State facing one another.

The last time UCLA and North Carolina faced each other in the CBS Sports Classic was back on December 19, 2015. Though the Bruins put up a valiant effort, the #11 Tar Heels outlasted UCLA with an 89-76 victory.

That same season, UCLA beat #1 Kentucky at Pauley Pavilion, 87-77, in a contest separate from the Classic. The Bruins also finished with an underwhelming 15-17 record that season.

The Bruins have the lead with 11 total (10 of which came in the John Wooden era) while the Tar Heels are third with 6, winning their most recent championship in 2017. Coincidentally, another CBS Sports Classic team, Kentucky, is second overall with 8. Ohio State has only claimed one (1960).
