Former UCLA football player, WR Darren Andrews, has signed with the New England Patriots, despite not being picked up in the NFL Draft.

Another UCLA football player has found his way to the pros as wide receiver Darren Andrews has signed with the AFC Champion New England Patriots.

Though we are two weeks removed from the 2018 NFL Draft, pro teams are still looking for players that could potentially aid in their quest for success. The Patriots, which have won two of the last four Super Bowls, are also looking for fresh talent which they will get with Andrews.

For the last two season, Andrews has been one of UCLA’s most reliable and consistent receivers on the team. Two seasons ago, Andrews had the most receiving yards on the Bruins with 709 total yards, averaging 12.9 yards per catch. That was the year UCLA had an unfortunate amount of drops, though Andrews was one of the few that stood out in the passing game.

Last season he continued to shine with the second most receiving yards on UCLA (773) and the most touchdowns (10). This was on a team that had the fourth best passing offense in the nation (4,478).

Andrews is not the quickest receiver, but if the Patriots need someone to go out and reel in short-yardage passes consistently, especially from one of the best signal callers in history, Tom Brady, then the former Bruin is their man. Andrews runs clean routes, has solid position on defenders and can grind out yards after contact.

Though he will have to compete for a spot on the roster, he has the tools that New England can utilize. Hopefully this signing is just a start to a long pro carrier. Congratulations, Darren!
