UCLA Football: 10 bold predictions for the 2018 season
5. TE Caleb Wilson will at some point be named as a Heisman Candidate
Yeah I went there. We’re going to hear Caleb Wilson’s name a lot next season which means that at some point we will hear it in terms of the Heisman Trophy talk.
For those that did not follow UCLA football last season, it was simply amazing what Wilson did, especially in only half a season. In his second year with the Bruins, he shot out of the gate as UCLA’s top receiver early in the season as he had amassed 490 receiving yards (4th overall on UCLA) and one touchdown. And that was only in five games.
Unfortunately, he suffered a foot injury which took him out for the rest the season. It was a big blow for him and the team as Wilson was looking very comfortable catching passes from Josh Rosen. If he did not get injured, it would not surprise anyone if he finished with the most receiving yards last year.
This year, bigger things are expected from the 2017 breakout player who was ranked the best tight end in the nation by Pro Football Focus. Add to the fact that Chip Kelly is an offensive genius and has recently been utilizing tight ends in his offense schemes, which should lead to an even bigger 2018.
