In recent weeks, calls for Steve Alford’s Job have never been louder. So what is the kind of coach the UCLA basketball team is looking for?

When UCLA basketball lost to St. Bonaventure in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament, I couldn’t go anywhere on social media without seeing 15 different “Fire Alford” posts.

There’s a lot that’s been said about firing Steve Alford, and I don’t think there’s anything new I could say.

But I think an equally important question worth asking is: What should UCLA look for in a basketball coach? What makes a good coach?

When UCLA hired Chip Kelly as the newest football head coach, it was a very obvious decision.  Very rarely is that clear a talent on the market with bonafide success. Yet, making the right decision is the difference between First Fours and Final Fours.

So how does one figure if someone is a good coach?  By looking at their process.
