What’s Bruin Show (156) – UCLA Football wrap up and what makes a legendary Bruin QB
In Episode 156 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we return for our first show of 2018 and discuss the end of the UCLA football season and look ahead to next year. We also examine what makes a legendary Bruin QB and with UCLA basketball starting Pac-12 play, we look at where the Bruins are headed.
In this latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I are glad to be back behind the mics and after two weeks of vacation, we were more than ready to dive back into the world of UCLA football and basketball.
RELATED: Are the Bruins destined for a National Championship?
We start the show with an play-by-play of the National Championship Game. More specifically, Mrs. Bill Shirley’s description of Bill’s reaction to his Alabama team winning a roller coaster National Championship. It was quite annoying.
The real show started when we recapped UCLA football’s Cactus Bowl performance and just like many Bruin fans, we felt it was an expected let down. From the “will Josh Rosen play or won’t he?” narrative to the lackluster defensive effort, it was the perfect ending to the Jim Mora era. And now it is over.
With that we look at UCLA football going forward with their new coach. How is recruiting going? What coaches have been hired? Can Chip Kelly make the Bruins immediately successful?

We then talk about the legacy of Rosen and get into a very interesting talk about the best QBs UCLA has produced. Who is on your UCLA QB Mt. Rushmore?
We then finish up with some UCLA basketball talk. The Bruins are at the top of the Pac-12 after two weeks, but will it last? Though UCLA has been successful, especially after the Kentucky game, they took a step back against Stanford. Will the real UCLA please stand up?
