The UCLA football team has announced that they will be retaining the services of former DL coach Angus McClure, though in a different capacity. Chip Kelly will also have to do without his top target in his offensive coordinator search.

It was announced yesterday that Angus McClure will remain with the UCLA football program as they transition from the Jim Mora to the Chip Kelly era, though McClure will be moving over to coach tight ends.

For the last several season, McClure has coached the defensive line for the Bruins, but his career has not been limited to this position group. McClure has coached special teams, offensive line and even tight ends, most recently with UCLA during the Karl Dorrell era.

It also appears that McClure will continue to be the Bruins recruiting coordinator. During the Mora years, the Bruins were able to haul in several top classes and McClure was a big reason why. Currently, UCLA is is ranked 50th in 247Sports.com’s top 2018 recruiting class rankings, though many expect that to improve by National Signing Day.

McClure replaces long-time friend of Mora, Rip Scherer, who coached tight ends the last two seasons with UCLA. Despite the fact that many predict that Kelly will continue to utilize his game changing run-based spread offense, it will be interesting to see how the TEs will fit in next season.

This last season, we saw many tight ends step up and were a major part of a high flying offense which included Caleb Wilson, Austin Roberts and Jordan Wilson, but the Bruins also have a lot of younger talent that will compete for starting spots next season including Jimmy Jaggers, Moses Robinson-Carr and Devin Asiasi.

Here is what the current coaching staff looks like:
