News out of camp is that QB Josh Rosen practiced today and should his progress continue he will be able to start on Saturday when the UCLA Football team plays host to the ASU Sun Devils.

In what has been an ugly week for the UCLA Football team there might just be some good news to finally report. QB Josh Rosen was able to practice today according to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. That news means the chance the Bruins can still get into a bowl game is slim but still alive.

Rosen was knocked out of the game against the Washington Huskies with a concussion and did not travel with the team last week when the Bruins lost to the Utah Utes.

The news is even bigger now that we know that primary backup QB Devon Modster broke his thumb against Washington which is why we saw Matt Lynch come in. Lynch, typically the third string QB would have been the starter this week if Rosen was unable to go.

Given the fact that the Bruins would have been down their leading receiver and their starting QB it’s not hard to see why expectations looked bleak. Now just down their leading WR and Rosen’s favorite target expectations just look stormy.

Of course as quickly as Rosen can come back he can be lost quickly too. This defensive front from ASU likes to blitz and last year Rosen was lost for the season against the Sun Devils. Keeping him upright and clean will be of the upmost importance.

The UCLA Football offensive line has played much better this year and will need to be at the top of their game to keep Rosen from taking too many hits. They’ll also need to create lanes in the running game to keep the offense from becoming one dimensional.

With Caleb Wilson and now Darren Andrews lost for the season Rosen will need to find a new favorite target. Jordan Wilson has become a viable option in the passing game but WR Jordan Lasley, who has been suspended the last two games for unknown reasons, needs to have a big game should he play. Aside from Theo Howard he’s the most athletically gifted WR on the team.

Rosen will almost certainly be back for the game. What’s less certain right now is if this team can manufacture offense and keep him healthy.
