In this loaded episode of the “UCLA B-Team” podcast we dive into the UCLA Football team and their victory over Colorado, we look at the NFL talent in the front seven of the Bruins’ defense, explain why a certain Bruin won’t be in the talk for the Heisman, ask ourselves if the PAC-12 should protect certain teams and oh yeah, LaVar Ball.

Just to preface this piece we did address the recent tragedy in Las Vegas. If you’ve fatigued on all of the news and have grown emotionally weary hearing all of the first hand accounts then by all means skip ahead a few minutes. We all three agreed that although we are a UCLA Football/UCLA sports podcast it was important to take even just a few seconds to comment on what is going on in the world.

Jumping into the sports topics, we recapped the UCLA Football victory over the Colorado Buffaloes that could best be described as a “slog fest”. The Bruins enter their bye week with a win but what did we really learn about this team? How different do they really look defensively and offensively. Speaking of defense, Bruin LB Kenny Young had a strong game last week against Colorado making several key stops but we “B-Teamers” asked ourselves, how many players in the defensive front seven for UCLA have NFL futures?

The next topics up were mentions of the recent “targeting” issues this UCLA Football team has had to deal with and if they fall under the category of poor tackling or poor discipline. Nathan also begged the question “Why is QB Josh Rosen not higher on the Heisman watch list?”. There were a number of reasons we were able to come up with but it still an odd question given how well Rosen has played through the first month of the season.

Our most lively discussion of the night revolved around the idea that the PAC-12 needs to “protect” contenders and if we agreed with that thought. This theory was proposed on the heels of the USC Trojans losing to the WSU Cougars last Friday night in Pullman, WA. Make sure you turn up your dials here because we didn’t want this to be a “USC” topic but a conference topic.

We wrapped up with some much needed, can you feel the sarcasm, LaVar Ball talk. The Ball family is in the news again because LaVar has pulled his youngest son out of public school and plans to homeschool him. Our reactions to this are probably hall of fame worthy.

With the MLB playoffs also starting up Nathan took this opportunity to remind all of you listeners and the show of former UCLA Bruins who would be taking part in the playoffs and to adjust your team allegiances accordingly.

Lastly, with the passing of the legendary Tom Petty, all three hosts ended the show by naming a musician that had died in 2017 that really impacted them. It was a somber end but make sure you tune in and see if you agree with any of our choices.
