On Tuesday the home of UCLA Football, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, announced that it would finally name the field inside the stadium.
It will be a couple weeks but the UCLA Football Bruins won’t be playing on a nameless field any longer? Oh did you not notice the field didn’t have a name? No I’m sure you didn’t really notice and if you did I’m not so sure that you really cared.
For the first 95 years of it’s existence the field itself has remained nameless but has been the historic setting for Super Bowls, Olympics and even some amazing concerts from the biggest names in music. However for the past 35 years it has been the official home of the UCLA Football Bruins and likely one of your favorite places to spend a Saturday during football season.

The field itself will be renamed Spieker Field after former alumnus Tod Spieker and his family made a $10 million donation. That name will stand for at least the next 25 years. Hopefully in that next quarter of a century the Bruins will play in a number of high profile Rose Bowl games.
This is just another small change investors have looked to make to the home of the Bruins. They’ve updated the press boxes (which are very snazzy) and installed new video screens to aid those who come to the games. They’ve also spend $40 million to upgrade the cellular network around the stadium to improve calls, texts and social media accessibility which is paramount in this day and age for the average fan.

Will the naming of the field help the Bruins win games this year? Probably not. However the Bruins still and hopefully will always call the Rose Bowl home and if boosters and donors can continue to dig into their pockets I’m sure there are a few more things they’ll look to update.
