UCLA Basketball 2018 target Jules Bernard cut his list to five schools. He is a priority for UCLA who missed out on some recruits in the 2018 class.

UCLA Basketball 2018 four-star target, Jules Bernard cut his list of schools down to five and UCLA is on it.

Bernard, a 6’5” shooting guard/small forward (6’7” if you ask him) out of Windward School in Los Angeles, was initially rumored as a Stanford lean. However, Stanford did not make the cut. 247 sports’ crystal ball predicts that he will end up at UCLA.

Bernard has good size and uses his length to score in traffic. Right now, he is at his best filling lanes and finishing around the basket. He is not a high fly act, but he has enough athleticism to get where he wants and get his shot off.

He has good touch around the basket and can get points from the midrange all the way out to the three-point line. Watching him, it is easy to see that he understands angles. In college, he will be a threat to knock down jumpers off the ball and can use that advantage to attack closeouts.

Jules is also a strong rebounder on both ends. He crashes the boards on offense and will get buckets that way. On defense, he looks to rebound and push. This keeps pressure on the defense and creates opportunities for his team.  Additionally, his long arms make him dangerous in the passing lane on defense and he should thrive in a pressure defense system.

This is good news for Coach Steve Alford whose 2018 recruiting class currently has only one recruit: David Singleton III. Alford and UCLA Basketball struck out even though they were on the final list of a few high profile recruits in this class. However, Bernard is the kind of player that Alford should consistently land.
